What's new in Highland Dancing?

28 April 2002

Well, quite some time since the Website was last updated, but there are a few more pieces of information to mention.

Firstly, the School has moved to a new location in the town of Alresford which is just outside Winchester. It's a superb venue for our small school with warm, very well maintained and modern areas to dance in, for parents to relax and wait in and its also very nice to teach in. Click here for details of where the school has moved to. We moved here a few weeks ago now and everyone enjoys the new location.

Secondly, I started, some time ago, a dressmaking service for Highland Dancing outfits. It seemed that there were so few suppliers of quality dance clothing for Highland Dancers (especially in England) so I started to fill the gap. The service has taken off enormously offering custom made-to-measure outfits for children and adults. Click here for a link to the dressmaking page which gives details of prices etc. You can always contact me by telephone to discuss any queries you may have about clothing for Highland Dancing.

Thirdly, we had our very first Highland Dancing competition here in the South of England which was organised by myself along with an army of very focussed and dedicated helpers. Entries were small this year with 52 dancers competing across all sections, but the response was fantastic in terms of appreciation of the venue, catering facilities provided etc. I am hoping that next year the introduction of cash prizes and two Broadswords and Strathspey/Highland Reel team events will encourage a lot more entries. The date has already been set for 12 April 2003 so make a note in your diaries now! For results of the competitions dancing, click here.

Further modifications including the addition of a Site Map, a practical help-page covering what actually happens and how you should prepare for a competition and a handy checklist of items you should ensure you take to a competition.

Also, I would like to start a "used items for sale" page. If you have any dancing outfit items that you are selling and would like them advertised here, then please let me know. I, personally, sold my previous kilt outfit to a lady in the USA so even if you are not in the UK, do let me know because there may be someone here that is interested to buy it. Click here to send me the information.

More modifications to the Website completed today. The software for the Guestbook is installed, but not completely functional yet. That should be done in the next day or two - please do leave a message!

New School logo designed and added to Website as well. Many thanks to Tom Haye for his help with designing the graphic and, also, setting up the Guestbook.

Appropriately, the first piece of news is the starting up of this website. It has been designed to give information about Highland Dancing for those interested in enrolling with the Roger Drury School of Highland Dancing. Hopefully though it will also prove of interest to others who are also involved in Highland Dancing. The site is still in its infancy but will undoubtedly grow as I gather the necessary information (and more taxingly) the skills in using the web design software!

I myself am studying frantically for my SOBHD Adjudicator's Examination which is on the 12th and 13th of August in Edinburgh and will then resume teaching on 22 August at the Totton Recreation Centre near Southampton. Details of the classes offered are in the classes page.
